Grove Terrace - a legacy of Robert and Mary Cattle. Speaker Rosalind Batchelor

We warmly welcome Rosalind to speak of her research into the work of Robert and Mary Cattle. Robert Cattle was born in Sheriff Hutton. In 1767 he married Mary Brough and together they were instrumental in the development of Grove Terrace in York. Robert was a silversmith by trade and in 1840/41 served as Lord Mayor of York. Both he and Mary are buried in Sheriff Hutton churchyard; descendents of Robert are still living in the village. Rosalind will talk about their life and the legacy they left to the community. A fascinating account not to be missed.

Entrance on door. Members free, Visitors £3, including refreshments.

The House built on Love and Chocolate. Speaker Glennis Whyte

Glennis is the coordinator for the National Trust Volunteer Talks Service who raise money for the National Trust. This talk tells the story of the National Trust property, Goddards in York.

This was the home of Noel Terry and his family (Terry's chocolates). As well as showing the audience the house and grounds, Glennis will take you back to the beginning of confectionary making in York and the family's ups and downs behind the scenes, leading up to the building of the house. There are two love stories on the way; if you enjoy chocolate and a love story then this is the place to be.

Entrance on door: Members free, Visitors £3, including refreshments.
